The Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) Reaches Over 400 Students in Miriam College Nuvali Advocacy Week
Canlubang, Calamba, Laguna, 17 March 2026 — The Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), through its Project Management Office (PMO), joined Miriam College Nuvali’s Advocacy Week Learning Session held on the said date.
Implemented in partnership with the Miriam College – Child Rights Advocacy Center (MC-CRAC) and the Maryknoll-Miriam Identity, Spirituality, and Mission Office (MMISMO), the program reached 405 students from Grades 1 to 6. The sessions translated key concepts on child rights, responsibilities, and digital safety into age-appropriate and actionable knowledge for young learners.
A key highlight of the sessions was the promotion of the MAKABATA Helpline 1383 as the government’s central and 24/7 reporting mechanism for children in need of special protection, ensuring that young people know where to turn for help.
The facilitators from PMO, supported by colleagues from Public Affairs and Information Office (PAIO), Policy, Planning, and Research Division (PPRD), and Localization and Institutionalization Division (LID), worked hand-in-hand with MC-CRAC, MMISMO, and student volunteers from Miriam College’s Global Affairs and Diplomacy program to ensure success of the learning session. Through games, role-playing, and scenario-based discussions, students were encouraged to actively participate and reflect on real-life situations. This interactive approach helped them better understand child protection concepts and the importance of responsible online behavior, while also reinforcing the value of seeking guidance from trusted adults.
Beyond the classroom, the initiative highlighted the strength of collaboration between government agencies and educational institutions. By working together, CWC and its partners were able to bring child protection advocacy directly to students, making the message both accessible and meaningful.
CWC remains committed to sustaining partnerships and expanding similar efforts nationwide. By continuing to engage schools and communities, the Council aims to ensure that more children are informed, empowered, and protected—building a safer and more supportive environment for every Filipino child.
