CWC, UNICEF and partners conduct children’s consultation on the SDG – VNR

Around 30 Filipino children from various parts of the country gathered and exercised their right to participate as they were engaged in the consultation workshop on the Sustainable Development Goals Voluntary National Review (SDG-VNR) held on March 29-31, 2019 at Crowne Plaza, ADB Ave. Ortigas Center, Quezon City.

The consultation is part of the in-country track for the preparation of the annual report on the progress of the Philippines on the SDGs.

The activity was jointly facilitated by the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), UNICEF Philippines, and Philippine Legislators Committee on Population and Development Foundation Inc. (PLCPD) with support from the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) and the Plan International-Philippines. This is the third and important phase of the VNR process that pertains to the preparation of the zero draft, gathering feedback from various stakeholders, conduct of dissemination and validation workshops, and finalization of the report.

The consultation process involved presentation of the SDGs and the highlights of the draft SDG VRN, gathered insights on the SDG results, identified current issues that children believe should be prioritized in fulfilling SDG targets, and develop recommendations or solutions for the Philippines to fulfill SDG targets.

The output of the activity will form part of the VNR which the PIDS will prepare and submit to the NEDA for presentation at the high-level political forum in New York on July 2019.
