The Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) lined up a series of activities for the CWC staff in celebration of the 2016 National Women’s Month which is celebrated every March.

The theme for this year’s celebration is entitled “Kapakanan ni Juana, Isama sa Agenda!” which calls for a gender-balanced leadership roles in the public and private sector and the inclusion of women’s concerns in the government’s development agenda.

A film showing was conducted in CWC on March 07, 2016 which presents “Mga Kwentong Barbero” starring Ms. Eugene Domingo as Marilou, who, as a widow, took on his late husband’s job as a barber and took over his barber shop. The film depicts themes on gender roles and sisterhood; it shows how Marilou endured gender discrimination together with the support of her female friends as they face an unsettling situation with the rebel insurgents during the Marcos era.

Last March 14, 2016, the CWC staff got hyped up in the morning with its Wellness Zumba Session which was led by Zumba instructor, Mr. Jonnifer Lacorte. For the afternoon activity, an Orientation on Women and Nutrition was discussed by the resource person, Mr. Kelvin Esposo, Nutrition Officer II of the National Nutrition Council.

A one-day forum on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE) was also conducted on March 28, 2016 at the CWC Building which was attended by CWC staff and representatives from partner agencies including the National Youth Commission (NYC), Department of Justice (DOJ) Communications Division, Kaisahang Buhay Foundation (KBF), National Nutrition Council (NNC), Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (JJWC), and the National Center for Metal Health (NCMH). The forum was also graced by Mr. Jaime Antonio, Jr. from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) who served as the resource person for the forum.

The SOGIE forum aims to: 1) Share basic concepts on SOGIE; 2) Discuss SOGIE in relation to particular experiences and workplace assignments; and 3) Determine ways and means to stop discrimination on the basis of SOGIE.

The CWC staff also had the chance to avail a therapeutic massage which they availed individually on spas and salon which offers such services.
