The Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) condemns in the strongest possible terms the recruitment and use of children as combatants of war. This action by the Maute-Isis Group is a clear grave child rights violation. "Children are zones of peace. This is what our law states. Dapat walang batang nadadamay sa kaguluhan" says Exec. Dir. Mitch Cajayon-Uy. (Article 10 of R.A. 7610 )

The Philippines as a State Party to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child prohibits the recruitment of children in armed conflict and calls for the adoption of feasible measures to ensure protection and care of children who are affected by armed conflict.

We call on the Maute Isis Group to adhere to the law. We demand the Maute-Isis Group to release these children and let them grow in a proper and safe environment--free from violence.

We also call on our troops to practice maximum tolerance and double its efforts to protect and rescue the children involved.
