Girls and boys hailed from various sectors in the country, assembled the scout’s way in the Children’s Day Camp conducted last March 19, 2018 at the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) National Office.

The Children’s Day Camp is an initiative of the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) and BSP for the 2018 Girl Child Week celebration pursuant to Proclamation 759 series of 1996.

Its 2018 theme “Batang Babae, Malakas Ka. Batang Lalaki, Katuwang Ka” aimed at promoting gender equality and inclusion by recognizing the roles and capabilities of girls and boys in empowering one another.

Mr. Arthur R. Sales, Acting Director for Economic Enterprise of BSP, and Mr. Kenny Ralph S. Fernando, representative from the World Scout Bureau-Asia Pacific Regional Support Center, graced the Day Camp with a message of equality and empowerment to the children through the scout training.

Meanwhile, CWC Executive Director Mitch Cajayon-Uy stressed on the importance of engaging boys and men in the discussions on gender equality.  "Gender norms are created and perpetuated by everyone in the society from the time of an individual’s birth. The key to which both girls and boys experience childhood lies in involving both boys and men in gender concerns,” she said.

Children hopped from one base to another as they paid attention to the basics of life skills and survival training.

The learning sessions engaged participants on First-Aid, Fire-Safety, Bandaging, Cooking, Knot-Tying, Lashing, Compass-Reading, and overview of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) facilitated by the BSP staff.

Participants capped off the whole-day activity through the sharing of experiences and perspectives in the reflection segment of the closing ceremony.
