Last June 5-9, 2017, the 7th Cross Regional Meeting on Violence Against Children was held at the Manila Hotel as one of the commemorative activities in line with the 50th Founding Anniversary of the ASEAN for 2017.

This is an annual gathering of representatives from ASEAN sectoral bodies with relevant work on Violence Against Children (VAC), as organized by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary General on Violence Against Children (SRSG-VAC).

This year’s cross regional meeting highlighted ASEAN's pioneering initiatives and achievements on eliminating violence against children in the region, through the theme "Placing Children at the Heart of the Sustainable Development Agenda: Mainstreaming Children's Protection from Violence".

A Parallel Session gave the children an outlet to speak out and highlight their roles in eliminating violence against them.

A joint session between parents and children was held on the last day. Issues such as marrying below the age of 18 and corporal punishment were raised. Subsequently, children delegates responded that they should be responsible for themselves. They added that sex education should be brought back as a subject in school and that attention should be given to children with disabilities (CWDs).

Children from other ASEAN Member States were also toured in the Museo Pambata for a glimpse of the Filipino culture and arts.

The Council for the Welfare of Children is one with the ASEAN in supporting initiatives on eliminating violence against children.
