Council for the Welfare of Children

The Council for the Welfare of Children is the focal inter-agency body of the Philippine Government for children. It is mandated to coordinate the implementation and enforcement of all laws; formulate, monitor and evaluate policies, programs and measures for children. brigada-eskwela-welcomes-thousands-pencils-collected-cwc-1m-lapis-campaign.jpg

The Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) turned-over 776, 190 pencils during the Regional Kick-Off of the 2017 Brigada Eskwela at the Ramon Duterte Memorial National High School in Cebu City on May 15.

The theme for this year’s Brigada Eskwela is “Isang DepEd, Isang Pamayanan, Isang Bayanihan para sa Handa at Ligtas na Paaralan”.

Grades 1 to 3 public school students from 4th to 6th class municipalities in the Philippines will be the recipients of 4, 055, 735 pencils collected from the One Million Lapis Campaign which concluded last November 2016 during the National Children’s Month celebration.

The distribution of pencils is in time for the opening of classes for School Year 2017-2018.

This event was graced by DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones together with other DepEd officials and guests including CWC Deputy Executive Director (DED) Atty. Marijoy D. Segui, Australian Embassy First Secretary Felicity Lee and representatives of the Office of the Governor and City Mayor of Cebu, respectively.

For 2018, DED Atty. Segui also mentioned that CWC will embark on a project with DepEd and GMA Kapuso Foundation entitled One Million Bags and School Supplies Campaign which is a continuing endeavor to promote child’s right to quality education.
